As an essential equipment for modern infrastructure development, cable conveyors demonstrate versatile applications across multiple industries with specialized operational requirements.
Case Study : Nairobi Motorway Cable Tunnel Project in Kenya (East Africa’s First Smart Motorway)
Project Background
As a flagship project of Kenya’s Vision 2030, the Nairobi Motorway required the installation of Category 7 cables (power, lighting, communications, etc.) within a narrow maintenance tunnel (only 2.8 meters in diameter) beneath the motorway. The total cable length was approximately 35 kilometers. The main challenge of the project was completing the installation without disrupting traffic on the highway above.
Application of Chinese Equipment
The project utilized 16 miniature tunnel-specific cable conveyors from Keepapexpower.
Technical Features:
Compact Design: With a width of only 65 centimeters, it can transport cables through the narrow maintenance passages of the tunnel.
Low Noise Operation: The hydraulic system operates at a noise level below 70 decibels, complying with stringent urban noise regulations.
Intelligent Obstacle Avoidance: Equipped with laser rangefinders, the system automatically adjusts the conveying angle at curves to prevent cable friction against the tunnel walls.
Results and Feedback
- Precise Installation: The installation spacing error of the seven layers of cables was less than 5 millimeters, fully complying with design specifications.
- Schedule Assurance: Equipment operated around the clock, and the tunnel cable project was completed three months ahead of schedule.
- Standards Development: Based on the successful experience of this project, the Kenyan Ministry of Transport collaborated with the Chinese manufacturer to draft the “Technical Standards for Cable Installation in Confined Spaces in East Africa” (tentative version).
